Do you ever get to the end of the day and wonder where the day went? Or, how about the weeks, or months, or years? Sometimes I feel like I am sleep walking through life. Everyday is a similar routine. They're not bad days, just routine days.
There are times when I can drive home and once I'm there, I can't really recall much about the drive. The drive is so routine that I can almost sleep through it (not literally). Life can almost be he same. One year can flow into the next and you can't remember how you got to where you are.
In Mark 13 Jesus describes the destruction of the temple AD 70, as well as his return for final judgment. His disciples ask what any of us would ask, "When is this going to happen?" Jesus answers that nobody knows but the Father. However, he goes on to explain that they should stay prepared, "Stay Awake" or in some translations, "Watch!"
I like the ESV translation because "Watch" could lead to end times chasing through the news headlines. What Jesus is saying is that when he returns, be sure he finds you working for the Kingdom, not sleepwalking through life.
Mark 13:37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.
